BEGINNER POTTERY
CLASSES FOR ADULTS

Never taken pottery before?
Start here!

Beginner Class Outline:

Week 1:

Introduction to Wheel Throwing!

It’s so exciting to throw a pot on the wheel, so let’s get dirty! Your instructor will teach you the basic steps and techniques for throwing bowls & mugs.

Work from the first week will not be kept. The focus on week one is learning the steps and not a final result.

Week 2: Throwing all class. Now that you have the basics down, lets get making!

Weeks 3 and 4: Trimming & Throwing.

Class will start with learning about trimming excess clay and cleaning up the bottoms of your new pots.  After your pieces are trimmed, back to throwing some new creations!

Week 5: Glazing.

Learning about the fundamentals of glazing and under glazing and try out a few of your first pieces out of the first firing. After you finish glazing, you’ll be trimming your pieces from week 4 and then throwing new pieces if there’s time.

Week 6: Trimming and Throwing.

Hone some of your new found skills on the wheel or if you enjoy hand-building more, explore that!

Week 7: Trimming and Finishing.

Trim your pieces from week 6, and try out some hand-building.  Everything needs to be finished by the end of this class and ready to go into the kiln to be fired and ready for glazing next week.

Week 8: Glaze and Finish!

Try out dipping glazing from our selection of gorgeous options! Experiment with different methods and colour combos.

Each class will have about 2 1/2 hrs of working time and then about a half hour of clean-up.

1 Bag of clay is provided and included in the class fee.

Additional clay may be purchased at a cost of: $25 for a 5kg bag for new clay.

$15 for a 5kg bag of reclaimed clay if available.

If you miss a class that you have registered for, we cannot provide a refund or alternative class time for you.
Please let your instructor know to keep your work wrapped for the following week.
