I am a Ceramic Artist and Interior Designer living and working in Toronto. I have been enjoying making pottery for 40 years, and I have been teaching and sharing my pottery knowledge for about 10 of those years.

I began pottery at fine arts summer camps as a youngster and loved it. I then continued my ceramic training in high school. and then though fine arts programs such as Interlochen and University at George Washington where I received a Degree in Interior Design with a specialty in Architectural History.

My body of work reflects the many influences I have had over the years of my training. The result is a line of functional pieces that are intended for daily use in the kitchen and home.

My work is wheel thrown porcelain. The forms are spare and balanced. I put much of my focus into the shapes and and functionality of my pieces. Many of my pieces have a swirly spiral pattern which is achieved by mixing coloured stains with porcelain and then adding the coloured clay to the pure porcelain while it is on the wheel.

I love making pottery. I find a constant source of joy in the process. I love to share my work and experience with people.

I moved from Toluca, Mexico to Montreal over two decades ago, but I still maintain a deep connection to my Mexican roots.I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Concordia University in 2006, but it was in the vibrant streets of Toluca that I developed my passion for the visual arts.

After finding my zeal for ceramics at Concordia University, I honed my skills working at Mosaika Art & Design.I spent 15 years in Montreal, with more than nine of those years dedicated to creating handmade tiles for public art mosaics across Canada and the United States. This extensive experience enriched my artistic journey, allowing me to leave a lasting mark in public spaces through intricate and vibrant ceramic works.

In search of new inspiration and opportunities, I relocated to Toronto which offered a fresh environment to explore my artistic passions. I settled here, eagerly immersing myself in Toronto's ceramics community, making new connections and discovering new studios.I resumed teaching pottery about 7 years ago and, worked as a studio technician while dedicating time to personal projects and ceramic growth.

My pottery journey reflects a dynamic blend of cultural heritage, artistic dedication, and adaptability, as I strive to make meaningful contributions to the art world.

Wheelhouse Pottery is a vibrant new studio on Eglinton West in midtown Toronto. Since opening our doors, we’ve welcomed students from across the city to learn, create, and connect through clay.

Our classes focus on skill building, technique, design, and the joy of the pottery process. With guidance from our highly experienced instructors, students are supported every step of the way, transforming simple balls of “mud” into beautiful, finished pieces ready to take home and treasure.

Courses are thoughtfully designed to meet each student’s goals, ensuring that everyone—from complete beginners to experienced makers—feels inspired, supported, and excited to explore the world of pottery.

The Wheelhouse team is led by Lana Rayman and Valentina Guevara, two passionate Potters dedicated to sharing their love and knowledge of clay with the community. Backed by decades of experience and a deep appreciation for the creative process, they’ve built Wheelhouse Pottery as a warm, inclusive space where creativity truly takes shape.
